How to Measure Your Necklace Length

Materials Needed:

  • A measuring tape (preferably flexible) or a ruler.
  • A mirror (optional) to check the placement while measuring.
  • A pen and paper (optional) to note down the measurement.

The Measuring Steps you may be interested

01. Position the Measuring Tape or Ruler.

  • If using a measuring tape, place the end of the tape at the base of your neck (where you want the necklace to sit). If using a ruler, use the same starting point at the base of the neck, but you may need to use a string or flexible tape to measure the curve of your neck and then compare it with the ruler.

02. Wrap the Measuring Tape

  • For a necklace that fits snugly (e.g., choker): Measure the circumference around the neck where you want the necklace to sit, typically just above the collarbone.
  • For longer necklaces (e.g., princess or matinee lengths): Place the measuring tape where the necklace will hang. For instance, a princess length necklace sits just above the collarbone, while a matinee length falls around the chest area.

03. Measure the Length

  • If using a measuring tape: Simply wrap the tape around your neck and note the length in either inches or centimeters. For rulers, measure the string or flexible tape that you used to mimic the necklace length.

04. Check for Fit

  • If possible, try on the necklace length you just measured using a string to ensure it’s the desired fit. Check in a mirror to visualize how the length will sit on your body.

05. Mark the Measurement

  • Write down the measurement that feels most comfortable or looks best in the mirror. If you are unsure about the fit, measure a few more times for accuracy.
